RABAT, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- Morocco on Tuesday approved the constituent act of the African Union (AU) as part of its bid to rejoin the organization, Morocco World News reported.
A council of ministers adopted the act, its additional protocol and the bill on the approval of the above-mentioned act in the Royal Palace in Marrakech, the report said.
The adoption of the act comes under the implementation of the royal decision announced by the King Mohammed VI on the 27th African Summit, held last July in Kigali, the Royal Palace Spokesperson Abdelhak Lamrini said following the council meeting.
Morocco left the Organization of African Unity, which later became the African Union, in 1984 after it recognized Western Sahara's independence.
The North African country made an official request in last September to join the African Union.
