MANILA, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) -- The Philippine Congress, acting as the Commission on Appointments (CA), approved Wednesday the nomination of Jose Santiago "Chito" L. Santa Romana to be the country's new ambassador to China.
Without any opposition from the members of the CA composed of some senators and congressmen, Sta. Romana was confirmed during the plenary session.
According to Senator Vicente Sotto III, the incoming envoy to Beijing is very much qualified to the post.
"He is the perfect nomination ... Chito is a China specialist. Assigning him to China is like throwing a fish in the water," he said.
Sta. Romana lived in China for a long time.
The Philippine government will formally communicate to China Sta. Romana's appointment to the post after getting the CA's nod.
