NANJING, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- Jiangsu has vigorously developed green energy through the construction of regional energy transformation demonstration projects, said Hang Hai, Director of the Jiangsu Provincial Energy Administration.
Hang Hai introduced energy development situation and approaches of Jiangsu at the International Green Energy Development Conference held in Yangzhong city of Jiangsu on September 16.
“Jiangsu is developed with huge energy consumption and high external dependence. While improving its energy production and supply capacity, Jiangsu has persistently taken energy restructuring as the main direction of the energy production and consumption revolution,” said Hang.
To encourage green energy development, the province has strengthened the guidance for planning, as the provincial "13th Five-Year" energy development plan expressly encourages new energy demonstration cities (industrial parks) and green energy demonstration counties. It has also enhanced leading effect of demonstration programs and provided more policy support, said Hang.
In the first half of 2017, Jiangsu's installed renewable energy generating capacity increased by 3.72 million kilowatts, accounting for 71 percent of Jiangsu's total growth. Such added capacity amounted to 17.18 million kilowatts, up 43 percent year on year, accounting for 16 percent of the provincial total; renewable energy yielded 15.1 billion kwh of power for the province, a year-on-year increase by 29 percent, and all the output was timely transmitted to and fully accommodated by the grid for consumption, according to Hang.
