BEIJING, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- An exhibition of development in Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture in central China's Hunan Province opened Wednesday in Beijing.
This year is the 60th anniversary of Xiangxi, the poorest prefecture in the province and the only autonomous ethnic minority prefecture.
Last year, the GDP of Xiangxi hit 55.2 billion yuan (8.4 billion U.S. dollars), according to Long Xiaohua, the prefectural governor.
Due to targeted poverty alleviation including rural tourism, employment transfer and relocation of residents, more than 350,000 people have been taken out of poverty since 2014.
The prefecture received 20.4 million tourists in the first half of 2017, generating revenue of 14 billion yuan, Long said.
