MADRID, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- Spain received a total of 10.5 million international tourists in July, a 10.1-percent increase compared to the same month of 2016, according to data published on Thursday by Spain's Statistical Office (INE).
Spain received 2.3 million tourists from Britain, which meant a 7-percent increase and represented 22.1 percent of the total. The British were followed by the French and the Germans, whose arrivals reached 1.5 million and 1.4 million respectively, rising by 2.8 percent and by 8.7 percent on a year-on-year basis.
The INE also reported that in the first seven months of the year, the number of international tourists arriving in Spain had reached 46.9 million, 11.3 percent more than in the first seven months of 2016.
Tourism is a key sector for Spain, which is one of the most visited countries in the world, receiving 75.6 million international tourists in 2016.
