BEIJING, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- Chinese digital publishers have been actively participating in the Belt and Road Initiative and co-building and sharing knowledge resources with relevant countries, in an effort to promote exchange, distribution and innovative development of technology and culture while improving international influence of China’s academic resources.
Experts attending the 2017 International Conference on Integrated Development of Digital Publishing and Digital Libraries (CDPDL) said that it is already a consensus in the community that knowledge resources should be built and shared in the international sphere.
Statistics show that in the last decade, China exported nearly 2.1 billion digital publications to 43 countries and regions, including the United States, Britain and Canada.
Dou Tianfang, deputy director of Tsinghua University Library, pointed out that library, as a knowledge service provider that connect to users, should be equipped with the top level raw data and searching engine covering the whole Internet.
Meanwhile, it should also integrate into the distribution process and become a initiator and contributor of fast knowledge distributing, Dou said.
Chinese digital publishers have been actively taking part in building a multi-level cultural cooperation mechanism, creating more channels for cooperation along the Belt and Road Initiative and constructing the intelligence Silk Road and health Silk Road.
Wang Mingliang, chairman of Tongfang Knowledge Network Technology, said that against the background of the development of big data and Internet, whether production, distribution and service of knowledge can be more innovative and form new ways of study decides a society’s capability to obtain and utilize knowledge. Therefore, libraries will develop across areas, and museums as well as archives will become a platform for knowledge production and historical study.
The International Conference on Integrated Development of Digital Publishing and Digital Libraries was jointly launched by Tsinghua University Library, the University of Hong Kong Libraries and China Academic Journals (CD Edition) Electronic Publishing House Co., Ltd., 7 years ago and it has attracted over 3,000 experts in total from more than 40 countries.
The 2017 seminar, held in Shanxi, Taiyuan is the biggest one compared with the past seminars. A record of 1,200 experts and scholars from 22 countries along the Belt and Road participated the event. (Contributed by Wang Bin, Guo Yanqing, edited by Yang Qi, kateqiyang@xinhua.org)
