GENEVA, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) -- Switzerland's unemployment rate stood at 3.7 percent in January this year, up from 3.5 percent two months ago, the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) reported Thursday.
With 164,466 people registered as jobless in the confederation last month, the latest figures show that an additional 5,094 unemployed individuals were recorded in January compared to December 2016.
Youth unemployment (15 to 24 years) rose by 2.9 percent, with almost 19,800 young adults looking for a job in January.
According to SECO, the number of jobseekers signed up to work in the country increased by 3,448 people from December to January, reaching 226,861 by the end of last month.
The state agency also reported that the number of listed job opportunities in Switzerland, whose population stands at over 8.2 million, rose by 1,455 in January to reach 11,094. Enditem
