BERLIN, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- The consumer prices in Germany rose by 0.5 percent in 2016 on an annual average year on year, official data showed on Wednesday.
The prices of energy and foods were more expensive. In December alone, energy prices caused inflation rate to jump to 1.7 percent compared with that in December 2015, the federal statistical office Destatis reported.
Destatis pointed out in the report that from January to November the inflation rates were all below 1 percent, while the inflation rate in December reached the highest level since that in July 2013.
Food prices, which increased by 0.8 percent in 2016 year on year, had an upward effect on prices as a whole on an annual average, Destatis added.
In addition, the consumer price index in December 2016 rose markedly by 0.7 percent compared with the previous month.
