HAIPHONG, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) - Construction on China-Vietnam economic and trade cooperation zone has kicked off in Haiphong, a northern city in Vietnam.
The cooperation zone is invested by Shenzhen Investment Holding Corporation, a state-owned enterprise in Shenzhen, for 175 million US dollars. The first phase of the zone is designed with land coverage of 196 hectares.
Infrastructure investment in the first phase project would complete by the end of October in 2017, and the construction work is scheduled to finish by 2021. Upon operation, the cooperation zone is expected to attract investment of more than 1 billion US dollars and create 30,000 job opportunities.
The cooperation zone is expected to develop into a key project under the Belt and Road Initiative and the "Two Corridors and One Ring" strategy between China and Vietnam, said Hong Xiaoyong, Chinese ambassador to Vietnam. (Edited by Li Xiaohui, lixh@xinhua.org)
