COLOMBO, March 8 (Xinhua) -- The Sri Lankan government on Tuesday sought the parliament support to deal with huge debt in the face of a global economic crisis.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe briefed the parliament on the economic state of the country and agreed to a debate on the issue.
The opposition called for the debate saying the country was facing a serious economic crisis.
The prime minister agreed on the debate to be discussed following discussions with political party leaders.
He said the new government is in the process of strengthening the economy of the country and paying off huge debt. Enditem
