NANNING, Sept.21 (Xinhua) -- Guangxi, an autonomous region in southwest China, will further enhance cooperation with ASEAN member-countries under the Belt and Road Initiative, Hu Jingbo, vice head of Guangxi Tourism Administration, told Xinhua in an interview.

“Guangxi will deepen partnership with ASEAN markets to share business opportunities”, she said. The region, known for its scenic beauty, is now gearing up to make tourism become its pillar industry.

The year of 2017 marks the 50th anniversary of the China-ASEAN Year of Tourism Cooperation. Over the years, Guangxi has developed close partnership with ASEAN countries in the tourism sector.

During the 14th China-ASEAN Expo held recently, China-ASEAN Expo Secretariat and China Economic Information Service jointly organized the China-ASEAN Business Matching Meeting on Tourism Cooperation in Nanning, the capital city of Guangxi. The event attracted more than 140 tourism-related Chinese and ASEAN companies to participate in.

A luxury cruise route from Guangxi’s Fangchenggang to Da Nang and Nha Trang of Vietnam was launched on August 29, 2017. The route is expected to connect with other ASEAN destinations including Cambodia, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia. (Edited by Ding Lei, dinglei@xinhua.org)
