ABUJA, April 5 (Xinhua) --Nigeriais trying to revive its textile sector by job creation, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Aisha Abubakar said on Tuesday.
The official described the sector as "all important", saying President Muhammadu Buhari "is passionate about the revival of the sector" asNigeriaseeks to diversify its economy.
"The country is looking forward to the revival of this sector and I believe we are going to be on the right path," the minister told reporters.
In the 1980s, the cotton, textile and garment sector was the biggest employer of labor inNigeriafollowing government institutions, with more than 175 factories operating across the country at its peak.
Challenges facing the sector include high cost of funding, unstable power supply, obsolete plants and machinery as well as cotton contamination, Abubakar said. Enditem
