Tiantai Mountain
National-class Scenic Area and National AAAA-grade Scenic Spot)—Summer Resort and Water Sports Paradise
With a total area of 192 square kilometers, Tiantai Mountain (National-class Scenic Area, National Forest Park, National AAAA-grade Scenic Spot, and part of the Sichuan Giant Panda Sanctuary UNESCO World Heritage Site) is 45 km outside of Qionglai City.
Yuxiao Peak (the main peak) is 1,812 meters above sea level. Tiantai Mountain boasts rare examples of box-shaped syncline mountains, and gives us a glimpse of the abundant changes in the Danxia Landform.
The mountain range tilts from the southwest to the northeast into a U-shape. It also ascends from low to high, forming a three-tiered platform. Tiantai Mountain is named for its "platforms rising to meet the sky".
This scenic spot features a mild climate, abundant rainfall, an average annual temperature of 16℃, and a forest coverage rate of 94.4 percent. Tiantai Mountain is a part of the Giant Panda Ecological Corridor in the Qionglai Mountain Range. In 2006, Tiantai Mountain was designated as part of the Sichuan Giant Panda Sanctuary (World Natural Heritage Site).
