FREETOWN, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese Chamber of Commerce and the 27th Chinese medical team in Sierra Leone on Saturday donated medical supplies and provided free healthcare services to residents of the country's Western Area Rural District.
The initiative, organized under the auspices of the Chinese Embassy in Sierra Leone, was held as part of the China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges.
The donated supplies included urgently needed antibiotics, topical ointments, antimalarial drugs, cold and fever medications, and medical masks.
The medical services included general health checks, blood pressure and blood sugar measurements, consultations on women's and children's health, eye screening, and traditional Chinese medicine treatments, including acupuncture and massage.
Kiskama Fomba Swarray, principal public health superintendent for the Western Area Rural District, welcomed the initiative, commending the Chinese medical team's previous outreach in May and calling for sustained cooperation to improve access to healthcare across the district.
