SHANGHAI, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- China topped the gold medal tally at the 48th WorldSkills Competition as the event concluded in Shanghai on Sunday night, marking the fifth consecutive edition in which the country has taken the top spot.
Chen Jining, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and secretary of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, and Chinese State Councilor Shen Yiqin attended the closing ceremony.
China's He Xiaoman received the prestigious Albert Vidal Award for her performance in the rail vehicle technology competition. The award is WorldSkills' highest honor and is presented to the competitor with the highest overall score across all skills.
China competed in all 64 skills, winning 41 gold medals, 11 silver medals, four bronze medals, and six Medals for Excellence. The Chinese delegation ranked first in the gold medal tally, the overall medal tally, and the total group points standings, marking China's best-ever performance at the WorldSkills Competition.
At the closing ceremony, the WorldSkills flag was officially passed to Japan's Aichi, which will host the 49th edition of the competition in 2028.
The WorldSkills Competition, held every two years, is widely regarded as the world's leading vocational skills competition. This year's event, held from Sept. 22 to 27, drew 1,385 participants from 68 countries and regions.
China sent 71 competitors to take part in all 64 skills at this year's competition, covering six sectors, namely transportation and logistics, construction and building technology, manufacturing and engineering technology, information and communication technology, creative arts and fashion, and social and personal services.
Seven skills made their debut at this year's competition, including rail vehicle technology, unmanned aerial systems and software testing, reflecting emerging industry trends and evolving demand for vocational skills.
Organized by WorldSkills International, the event was co-hosted by China's Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security and the Shanghai municipal government. The WorldSkills Conference 2026 and WorldSkills Shanghai 2026 Expo were held alongside the competition.
