Children take a study tour at Qingdao Dengta Flavoring and Food Co., Ltd.
Factory tourism is becoming a new trend in Jiaozhou, a city in Qingdao, east China's Shandong Province, breathing new life into the city's cultural tourism industry.
A number of local leading enterprises are opening their doors to visitors, turning production lines into distinctive sightseeing routes and factory floors into learning spaces for study tour participants. The integration of industry and cultural tourism is taking root and injecting new vitality in Jiaozhou.
Jiaozhou has a strong manufacturing foundation and a comprehensive industrial base, with more than 15,000 industrial enterprises, including over 1,000 above designated size, the highest number among cities of its tier in Shandong Province.
Encouraged by local authorities, a growing number of industrial companies have ventured into the culture and tourism sector, expanding and refining their industrial chains while further enhancing their brand influence.
Qingdao Dengta Flavoring and Food Co., Ltd., a time-honored Chinese flavoring manufacturer in Jiaozhou, boasts 120-year-old traditional brewing craftsmanship. Visitors can try their hand at making condiments, taste soy sauce- and vinegar-flavored ice cream in the company's own museum and condiment-themed science park, immersing themselves in the cultural heritage of the brand.
Beyond cultural heritage experiences, Liqun Group's smart logistics and food production base highlights the role of technology in modern industry. Visitors can explore its smart logistics center equipped with 3D vision technology and a cold-chain center with a storage capacity of 300,000 cubic meters, gaining insight into the efficient operation of modern supply chains through a transparent visitor corridor.
The rapid growth of industrial tourism has not only brought tangible visitor traffic and market benefits to enterprises, but also generated significant spillover effects across related industries.
Dengta's science park has hosted more than 100 activities, including study tours, team-building events, cultural performances and business promotion events, attracting a steady monthly flow of around 1,200 visitors. These activities have also benefited local agricultural and catering businesses.
Liqun's smart logistics and food production base has further connected the industrial, agricultural and consumer sectors, leveraging industrial tourism to promote the integrated development of primary, secondary and tertiary industries.
Looking ahead, Jiaozhou will continue to strengthen its industrial tourism brand and enrich tourism experiences, enabling more visitors to explore the "city of factories" and experience firsthand the craftsmanship and industrial strength behind "Made in Jiaozhou."
