The Asia-Pacific Clean Energy Training Institute was launched during the 2026 APEC Energy Ministerial Meeting in Beijing. The institute was initiated by China Energy Investment Corporation Co., Ltd. (CHN Energy) and the specific arrangement of the institute was undertaken by its subsidiary, China Longyuan Power Group Corporation Limited.
The theme of Asia-Pacific energy cooperation in 2026 is to "forge an innovative and synergistic Asia-Pacific Energy Community for all". The cooperation priorities lie in three aspects: ensuring accessible and sustainable energy for every member, harnessing artificial intelligence to drive energy innovation and strengthening regional collaboration for shared growth, all in order to continuously deepen regional energy cooperation.
In August, CHN Energy, together with North China Electric Power University, hosted the first APEC Advanced Training Program for Leading Professionals in Clean Energy Sector in Fuzhou, the capital of East China's Fujian Province. More than 30 participants from 12 APEC economies, including energy officials, experts from research institutions and senior executives of energy enterprises, attended the program. They studied and discussed cutting-edge topics, such as the development of new power systems, innovation of new energy technologies, and application of digital and intelligent technologies in the energy sector. After the program, they gained an in-depth understanding of China's R&D, industrial application and practical progress in clean energy technologies.
It was against this backdrop that the Asia-Pacific Clean Energy Training Institute has been launched as a crucial, voluntary Chinese contribution in the energy sector for the 2026 APEC "China Year". It aims to serve as a professional public service platform to empower Asia-Pacific energy strategies, cultivate high-caliber talents and advance multilateral exchanges and learning.
The institute will train talents, promote technical exchanges and share experience in a regular manner, and it has set the goal of training 1,000 people in a decade. It will help forge consensus among Asia-Pacific economies and advance the building of a more inclusive, innovative and coordinated Asia-Pacific energy community, thereby contributing to the green and low-carbon transition and sustainable development of the regional energy sector.
