BEIJING, Aug. 28 (Xinhua Silk Road) -- China's data industry maintained rapid growth in 2025 with its output value hitting 6.78 trillion yuan (about 1.01 trillion U.S. dollars), up 15.7 percent year on year, said a report released on Friday.
A report regarding the development of China's data industry was unveiled by the National Data Development Research Institute at the opening ceremony of the China International Big Data Industry Expo 2026 on Friday.
According to the report, the combined output value of data-related software products, including artificial intelligence (AI) application software, and data resource products, including token services, reached 4.99 trillion yuan (about 742.6 billion U.S. dollars), accounting for 73.6 percent of the industry's total.
China granted more than 3,400 patents for intelligent agents in 2025, with the growth rate more than twice that of the previous year, indicating a marked acceleration in innovation.
Market vitality in the data industry has continued to grow. By the end of 2025, China had some 482,000 data companies, up 17.9 percent year on year. Financing activities were particularly active among data-related companies engaged in large models, simulation and synthetic technologies, and embodied intelligence services.
The country's data infrastructure has also undergone accelerated upgrading. By the end of June 2026, China's intelligent computing capacity had reached 2.4 million PFLOPS, representing an increase of 50.9 percent in just six months.
Meanwhile, regional data industry clusters are taking shape at a faster pace. The report showed that the output value of the data industry in China's eastern region reached 5.23 trillion yuan (about 778.3 billion U.S. dollars) in 2025, with industrial clustering becoming increasingly evident.
"Looking ahead, token services will foster new industrial ecosystems, while AI will open up new space for the development of the data industry. Breakthroughs in data technologies and industrial innovation will accelerate, and the data industry will continue to maintain relatively rapid growth," said Hu Jianbo, head of the National Data Development Research Institute.
