BEIJING, Aug. 28 (Xinhua Silk Road) -- Profits in China's integrated circuit industry, including computing chips and memory chips, surged 18.5-fold year on year in the first seven months of 2026, as accelerated artificial intelligence (AI) expansion triggered demand for computing-related products, Xinhua-run China Securities Journal reported on Thursday.
According to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Thursday, the profits of the integrated circuit industry contributed more than 80 percent to profit growth in the country's electronics industry.
During the January-July period, profits in the electronics industry rose 1.1 times year on year, contributing 9.3 percentage points to the growth of profits of industrial enterprises above designated size and providing a major boost to their rapid profit growth.
Along with faster expansion of "AI Plus"-related applications, demand for computing power has continued growing, rising demand for related products has pushed up prices, driving rapid profit growth in electronics industries related to the AI production and application.
Among other related sectors, profits in computer manufacturing, computer peripheral equipment manufacturing, and industrial control computer and system manufacturing increased by 3.3 times, 2.5 times and 1.6 times, respectively.
In the manufacturing of electronic devices and components, profits in electronic specialty materials manufacturing, semiconductor discrete device manufacturing, and electronic circuit manufacturing rose by 226.8 percent, 45.8 percent and 37.1 percent, respectively.
In the first seven months, China's manufacturing industry continued transformation toward the mid- and high-end segments of industrial and value chains. Profits of high-tech manufacturing enterprises above designated size increased by 50.1 percent year on year, contributing 9.6 percentage points to the growth of profits of industrial enterprises above designated size.
By sector, profits in optical fiber manufacturing, optical cable manufacturing and communications system equipment manufacturing rose by 468.4 percent, 62.6 percent and 55.0 percent, respectively; those in the manufacturing of specialized instruments for navigation, surveying and mapping, meteorology and oceanography increased by 157.8 percent; and those in the manufacturing of dental equipment and instruments rose by 74.5 percent.
