For Nanchang County, a landlocked area in east China's Jiangxi Province, building an extensive transport network that radiates across central China and connects to the world is the key to its opening-up-driven development.
Over the past five years, a modern comprehensive transport hub has taken shape there, with the Nanchang International Land Port as the core, a highway-railway-waterway multimodal transport system as the backbone, and rail transit and cross-river bridges as convenient shuttling routes for locals.

Late at night, the Nanchang International Land Port, one of the first batch of national logistics hubs during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, a national backbone cold-chain logistics base, a first-class rail logistic base and a 5A-level land port, was still bustling with life.
On the large screen of the port's control center, outbound and inbound foreign trade train trajectories and figures for container volume and commodity value kept flashing, revealing its change from a former small local distribution center to a busy regional logistics hub.
Currently, the land port has 25 foreign trade routes reaching as many as 134 countries and regions including those in ASEAN, Central Asia, Europe and South America, introduced Liu Jianhong, general manager of Nanchang Xiangtang Railway Port Development Co., Ltd.
The land port's provincially-pioneering application of one-stop customs clearance service for railway-marine joint transport and railway entry-exit fast customs clearance service for China Railway Express largely ensures streamlined customs declaration and smooth trade, noted Liu.
In the past, local auto producer Jiangling Motors used to transport by highway its vehicles to seaside-located Xiamen City or Ningbo City for export, but now, railway-maritime intermodal transport has shortened the entire shipping time to 5-7 days, while also cutting costs by 15-20 percent.
From 2021 to 2025, Nanchang International Land Port had handled goods imports and exports of 12.99 billion U.S. dollars.
When such an opening-up artery combines with full-area rail transit, high-speed road networks and multiple cross-river bridges, the county sees fluid flows of people and goods and fine functionality of economic boosters.
Countywide life quality also improved significantly thanks to erection and renovation of infrastructure facilities and construction of sponge city standard-meeting areas, pocket gardens and community greenways that helped local cultural streets, high-end business complexes, hospitals and rural tourism marketplaces thrive.
