China-Ghana trade expands 19.3 pct in 2025

May 13, 2026

Abstract : China remained Ghana's largest trading partner in 2025, with the bilateral trade standing at around 14.1 billion U.S. dollars, representing about 19.3 percent year-on-year growth, Chinese Ambassador to Ghana Cong Song has said.

ACCRA, May 12 (Xinhua) -- China remained Ghana's largest trading partner in 2025, with the bilateral trade standing at around 14.1 billion U.S. dollars, representing about 19.3 percent year-on-year growth, Chinese Ambassador to Ghana Cong Song has said.

During a meeting with Chinese and Ghanaian media late Monday in Accra, the capital of Ghana, Cong said the increasing bilateral trade between China and Ghana is due to the deepening traditional friendly relations between the two countries.

He said that the two sides expect even greater prospects for bilateral trade as the Chinese government's zero-tariff policy for 53 African countries took effect on May 1.

"The zero-tariff treatment will undoubtedly bring unprecedented new opportunities to African countries, including Ghana, injecting strong momentum into China-Africa trade, investment cooperation and the modernization of the African economy," Cong said.

As a result of the policy, he said, cocoa products, cashew nuts, shea butter, textiles and handicrafts from Ghana will be exported to China more easily, effectively enhancing the competitiveness of Ghanaian products in the vast Chinese market and fully unlocking Ghana's export potential.

"The new trade order will also promote cooperation between China and Africa in areas such as trade in services, digital trade, green industries and sustainable development, drive the continuous extension of industrial chains in various fields, and promote overall industrial development," the ambassador said.

Cong expressed confidence that zero-tariff exports to China would integrate trade and investment, helping attract more investment from other trading partners, including China, to Ghana and other African countries, thereby accelerating their industrialization.

"It will help bring capital, technology, equipment and management experience to Africa and allow African specialty products to be processed locally and then exported to China," he added.

On economic cooperation, the ambassador said that China and Ghana share highly compatible development philosophies and that the prospects for cooperation across various fields are broad, as China's advantages in capital, technology and industry are well aligned with Ghana's development needs.

Cong reiterated China's willingness to support Ghana's development agenda and help the country stimulate its development momentum.
