BEIJING, May 12 (Xinhua) -- China is willing to work with Brunei to take the China-Brunei community with a shared future to a new level, Chinese Vice President Han Zheng said on Tuesday.
Han made the remarks during a meeting with Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office of Brunei Darussalam in Beijing.
Han stated that the friendship between China and Brunei is based on friendly exchanges dating back thousands of years and serves as a model of mutual equality and mutual benefit. Noting that this year marks the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Brunei, Han said China is willing to work with Brunei to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, inherit the traditional friendship and enhance strategic cooperation.
Han said that the two sides should support each other on issues concerning their core interests, give play to the mechanism of the China-Brunei intergovernmental joint steering committee, deepen cooperation in flagship projects under the Belt and Road Initiative, expand cooperation in artificial intelligence, digital economy, green economy, energy and agriculture, and further facilitate personnel exchanges.
Billah offered high praise for the great achievements China has made in economic and social development, noting that the Brunei-China friendship has a long history and yields tangible results in practical cooperation. He also stated that Brunei firmly adheres to the one-China policy and is willing to maintain close communication and cooperation with China to contribute to regional peace, security, and prosperity.
