A white building complex combining traditional features and modern style stands silently next to the Yuweizhou Park in Nanchang, the capital city in east China's Jiangxi Province.
As home to the new Jiangxi Hospital of Longhua Hospital affiliated to Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the complex marks in-depth partnership between Longhua Hospital affiliated to Shanghai University of TCM and the Affiliated Hospital of Jiangxi University of TCM, two premier TCM hospitals in Shanghai and Jiangxi, to deliver tangible benefits to the local people.
With a total investment of approximately 1.6 billion yuan (over 220 million U.S. dollars) and a planned capacity of 1,000 patient beds, the new hospital holds a simple but grand vision: enabling people in central China to enjoy premier traditional Chinese medicine services equivalent to those provided in Longhua Hospital affiliated to Shanghai University of TCM right at their doorstep, without having to travel far to Shanghai.
To accomplish this goal, Longhua Hospital affiliated to Shanghai University of TCM has stationed 104 TCM specialists from Shanghai and set up six TCM master clinics. A cross-region team including nationally distinguished TCM masters and young TCM PhDs from Jiangxi has formed, who have worked together to overcome medical treatment difficulties of regional high-incidence diseases such as venomous snake bites and chronic ulcers, and published 50 internationally recognized SCI papers over the past three years. All the accomplishments are contributing unique "Jiangxi Solutions" of medical treatment to the world.
"We are not simply operating a hospital, but cultivating an incubator," said an official from the hospital.
"We hope that doctors trained here and new therapies developed in the hospital can bring benefits to people in a wider area, making the traditional Chinese medicine rejuvenate in the modern medical system and become a common wealth of the mankind."
