KATHMANDU, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- The dominance of China-made smartphones in Nepal strengthened during the first half of the current fiscal year 2025-26, with the country importing more smartphones from its northern neighbor, data released by the Department of Customs on Wednesday revealed.
The South Asian country imported 1,252,634 units of smartphones by mid-January 2026 of the current fiscal year, which began in mid-July 2025. Of these, 1,061,045 units were imported from China, accounting for about 85 percent of total smartphone imports.
During the same period of the previous fiscal year, Nepal had imported 1,111,556 smartphones, of which 859,425 units were from China, accounting for about 77 percent of total imports in that period.
Xiaomi, Vivo, and Oppo are among the popular Chinese smartphone brands in Nepal. In recent years, smartphone imports from India have also been growing, but the dominance of devices imported from China continues.
