JUBA, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese Embassy in South Sudan on Tuesday donated more than 20 pieces of agricultural machinery to boost food production in the African country's Western Equatoria State.
Speaking during the donation ceremony in Juba, the capital of South Sudan, Pia Philip Michael, undersecretary of the Ministry of Peace Building, said the equipment would enhance food security and support peace-building efforts in the state, which has experienced communal clashes since 2021.
"What your people and government have given us will stay with us forever, and we shall leave it with our children. This partnership is the beginning of the transformation of our community, the beginning of peace-building, and stability in the Republic of South Sudan," Michael said.
He added that the machinery would help transition the state from subsistence farming to mechanized, market-oriented agriculture.
Ma Qiang, Chinese ambassador to South Sudan, said the donated equipment from Chinese enterprise Zhaotai Group includes tractors, rotary tillers, and planters. Ma said the donation reflects the responsibility and commitment of Chinese enterprises, as well as China's broader efforts to support South Sudanese well-being and build a community with a shared future for humanity.
Ma also highlighted China's active assistance to Global South countries, contributing Chinese expertise and resources to help achieve the global goal of "zero hunger."
