December 23, 2025

Abstract : The Kuwaiti Ministry of Public Works and China Communications Construction Company Limited (CCCC) on Monday signed an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the first phase of the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port project on Boubyan Island in northern Jahra Governorate.

KUWAIT CITY, Dec. 22 (Xinhua) -- The Kuwaiti Ministry of Public Works and China Communications Construction Company Limited (CCCC) on Monday signed an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the first phase of the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port project on Boubyan Island in northern Jahra Governorate.

Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, cabinet ministers, and representatives from the Chinese Embassy in Kuwait and Chinese enterprises attended the ceremony.

In his remarks, the Kuwaiti prime minister described the project as a symbol of the strong Kuwait-China friendship and cooperation. The relations between the two countries are built on a long-standing and solid historical foundation, he said, adding that the Kuwaiti-Chinese strategic partnership is constantly being translated into concrete outcomes.

Liu Xiang, charge d'affaires at the Chinese Embassy, called the signing a milestone for implementing bilateral cooperation agreements and advancing high-quality Belt and Road cooperation between the two countries. Liu said the project would support Kuwait's economic diversification and its 2035 vision.

Chen Zhong, deputy general manager of CCCC, noted that this is the company's first Middle East port project partially built to Chinese standards, incorporating CCCC's technology and expertise from the outset. He added that CCCC would ensure the port becomes a model of China-Kuwait cooperation.

The Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port is central to Kuwait's plan to develop a regional trade hub and diversify its economy. The project is regarded as a flagship initiative under Kuwait Vision 2035.
