BEIJING, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- The continuous production of high-quality apples in the Weihai International Port Economic and Technological Development District of east China's Shandong Province has not only won market recognition, but also spawned a complete industrial chain involving production, processing, warehousing and sales, propelling local prosperity.
Currently, with Weihai Yingjuval Nursery Limited Company (Yingjuval) as the leader, the district has built the largest national level virus-free apple seedling breeding base in the province, effectively solving the problems of variety confusion, lack of virus-free seedlings, and single variety in the seedling market.
As a nationally renowned apple seedling breeding base, Yingjuval has a total of 200,000 square meters of rootstock nursery, about 66,667 square meters of ear picking nursery, and 400,000 square meters of breeding nursery. It sells 1 million rootstocks and 500,000 to 800,000 finished seedlings annually.
The apple seedlings of Yingjuval are not only sold nationwide, but also well-known locally.
The Weihai International Port Economic and Technological Development District has gathered more than 30 upstream and downstream enterprises in the apple industry chain, forming a pattern of integrated development from seedling cultivation, production, sorting, processing, sales and other aspects of the entire industry chain.
At present, the high-quality apple orchards in the district have reached about 22.67 million square meters, with an annual output of 60,000 tonnes and an output value exceeding 1 billion yuan, driving 12,000 households of fruit farmers to steadily increase their income.
The district will continue to promote the extension of the apple industry chain towards high-end, intelligent, and green development, and foster the industry to leap from single planting to full-chain integration to further propel local prosperity.
