POZEGA, Croatia, Nov. 11 (Xinhua) -- The groundbreaking ceremony for the Pozega-Godinjak expressway project in Croatia, undertaken by the China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), was held here on Tuesday, with the attendance of officials from both China and Croatia.
The ceremony was attended by Croatian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure, Oleg Butkovic, and Chinese Ambassador to Croatia Qi Qianjin.
Addressing the ceremony, Butkovic highlighted the significance of the Pozega-Godinjak expressway project as the second-largest infrastructure project after the Peljesac Bridge, which was also built by the CRBC.
Butkovic praised the CRBC's professionalism and capabilities, voicing confidence that the expressway project would also be completed smoothly and on time.
Qi said he hoped the Pozega-Godinjak expressway project would further contribute to the development of friendly relations between China and Croatia, as did the Peljesac Bridge.
The contract to build the 14.75-km expressway, with a value of 160 million euros (185.6 million U.S. dollars), was signed in May between the CRBC and Croatian Roads, the state-run road operator.
The project includes the construction of a 3.34-km tunnel, three overpasses, six underpasses, and one underpass tunnel. Once completed after four years' construction, the expressway will connect Pozega and Godinjak in eastern Croatia. (1 euro = 1.16 U.S. dollars)
