BEIJING, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- China will seek to broaden the global reach and enhance the appeal of its civilization, according to a policy blueprint that will guide the country's development over the next five years.
Tasks and measures to strengthen China's soft power were outlined in the Recommendations of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee for Formulating the 15th Five-Year Plan for Economic and Social Development, which was adopted at a key Party plenum last week and released on Tuesday.
This document calls for deeper cultural exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations, encouraging wider people-to-people interaction and cooperation. It also pledges support for taking more Chinese cultural enterprises and high-quality cultural works to the global stage.
Fan Zhou, an expert with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, noted the growing vitality of cultural exchanges between China and the rest of the world, driven by the global popularity of Chinese pop culture -- from TV dramas and literature to digital entertainment, and a rising "China travel" trend.
"Guided by these recommendations, efforts will be made to introduce more culturally rich, era-reflective and globally minded Chinese works to the world, and to promote vibrant exchanges among civilizations," Fan said.
Notably, these recommendations also emphasize improving mechanisms and institutions for international communication -- and strengthening country and regional studies to make global outreach more effective.
"A multi-level, multidimensional framework for international communication is expected to take shape, enabling the world to better hear China's voice and understand its story," said Leng Song, a researcher at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
China's international communication efforts will move toward greater sophistication and professionalism, Leng added, with a focus on enhancing their appeal and impact.
