JAKARTA, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- A total of 513 Indonesian workers were ready to take on roles in the operation and maintenance of the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway (HSR), according to PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC), a joint venture consortium between Indonesian and Chinese firms that constructs and operates the railway.
Eva Chairunisa, KCIC general manager corporate secretary, said the achievement reflects the success of Indonesia-China cooperation in building Indonesia's capability to independently operate the first high-speed rail system in Southeast Asia.
During the two years of the railway's operation, knowledge transfer from Chinese experts to Indonesian workers has gone well and met targets, demonstrating that Indonesia was increasingly independent in managing and operating the high-speed train system, Eva said.
She added that another 66 workers were currently in the final stage of certification and document preparation.
According to Eva, all participants received systematic and internationally standardized training in the fields of operation, electric multiple unit maintenance, and fixed asset management, under the direct mentorship of experienced professionals from China.
"Collaboration between Indonesia and China through KCIC is not just about technology transfer, but also about skills and knowledge. Going forward, Indonesians who have gained this experience will become mentors and trainers for the next generation in the high-speed railway sector," she said.
Commercially launched in October 2023, the railway was the first high-speed train in Southeast Asia, capable of reaching speeds of up to 350 km per hour and reducing travel time between Jakarta and Bandung from three hours to just 45 minutes.
