
BEIJING, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- A group of representatives of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) in China, together with the consuls general of Fiji, the Philippines and other countries in Shanghai and representatives from State Grid, academic institutions and domestic and foreign enterprises, visited State Grid Suzhou Power Supply Company in Suzhou in east China's Jiangsu Province recently, sharing ideas to boost green development.
Since joining the UNGC in 2006, State Grid has been continuously promoting green energy transformation and climate actions, becoming an important force in promoting the construction of a global sustainable modern energy system.
The event was held on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the UNGC and the 20th anniversary of State Grid becoming a member of the organization. Roundtable salons, on-site visits and in-depth dialogues were held to let the participants learn about the sustainable practices and experience of State Grid in ensuring energy and electricity security and promoting green transformation, and call on more enterprises to participate in sustainable development actions.
At the roundtable link, from the perspectives such as enterprise operation, international cooperation, and academic research, participants exchanged ideas on key issues such as global climate governance, energy strategy layout, and low-carbon transformation services, offering diversified thinking and reference for propelling sustainable development.
During the event, State Grid Suzhou Power Supply Company released an initiative calling on Chinese and foreign enterprises to achieve carbon neutrality at a faster speed. The initiative is rooted in the UNGC's youth SDG innovation accelerator project, the "Suzhou carbon neutrality and inclusion system" jointly built by State Grid Suzhou Power Supply Company and other relevant parties with the aim to build a one-stop carbon inclusion service system covering verification, emission reduction, trading, certification and finance.
State Grid also highlighted two excellent SDG innovation practices of "power big data serving smart management of carbon footprint of enterprises" and "building green partnership to promote rural sustainable development".
The participants also visited State Grid Suzhou Power Supply Company's grid dispatch center, SDG innovation laboratory, and the Suzhou Industrial Park active distribution network demonstration zone, experiencing State Grid's green practices in smart grid construction, green electricity and green certificate trading, carbon inclusion scenario application, and convenient charging facilities.
