GABORONE, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese community in Botswana gathered on Sunday at wheelbarrow, a nature park southwest of Gaborone, the capital, to celebrate China's National Day, which falls on Oct. 1.
Chinese Ambassador to Botswana Fan Yong praised the community for its contributions to Botswana's economic and social development, as well as for serving as a bridge between their homeland in China and their local communities in Botswana.
"This year is a special year, as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Botswana," Fan said, noting that the strategic partnership between the two countries has strengthened bilateral cooperation and created more opportunities.
The celebration drew about 300 participants, including members of Botswana's parliament, political party representatives, the Chinese medical team, the Confucius Institute at the University of Botswana, and Chinese enterprises in the country. The event, organized by the Botswana Shandong Business Association, featured drumming, Chinese songs, a lion dance, and a variety of games.
