BEIJING, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- As of Sept. 1, among the 103 listed companies in the AI glass sector, 48 reported improved year-on-year performance for the first half of the year, and multiple companies announced that they have completed the mass production delivery of AI glass products in the first half of the year, which has served as a key driver for their performance growth, according to data from the Choice financial terminal.

In the first half of this year, the core breakthrough in the AI glass sector lies in the fundamental transformation of product attributes, said Qiu Sisheng, chief economist of Shenzhen-based Wanzhong consultancy.

Currently, AI glasses are evolving from traditional "auxiliary tools" into "wearable terminals" with AI assistant capabilities, noted Qiu, adding this transformation has positioned AI glasses as the most promising popular track in the consumer electronics field, and as industry momentum continues to build, delivery volumes across enterprises may further increase in the second half of the year.

-- Multiple companies see performance growth in H1

According to the latest data released by Beijing RUNTO Technology Co., Ltd., China's smart glass market recorded a total retail volume of 468,000 units across all channels in the first half of 2025, representing a year-on-year increase of 148 percent.

It is learned that multiple companies across the industry chain achieved performance growth in the first half of the year. For instance, Shenzhen ZECHENG Electronics Co., Ltd. (837821.BJ) reported a net income attributable to parent shareholders of 11.4587 million yuan for the first half of the year, marking an 11.52-percent year-on-year increase.

The company stated in its semi-annual report that AI glass-related products achieved bulk order deliveries during the reporting period, serving as a new engine for revenue growth. Additionally, its newly-developed AI glass product project has entered the mass production phase.

Lens Technology Co., Ltd. (300433.SZ) posted a net income attributable to parent shareholders of 1.143 billion yuan in the first half of the year, representing a year-on-year increase of 32.68 percent.

The company's semi-annual report indicates breakthrough achievements in core processes, and that it has achieved mass production and delivery of complete AI glass units to leading domestic clients.

Goertek Inc. (002241.SZ) reported a net income attributable to parent shareholders of 1.417 billion yuan for the first half of 2025, marking a 15.65 percent year-on-year increase.

The company noted in its semi-annual report that both its precision components business and specific product lines within the smart hardware segment, involving AI glasses and smart wearable devices, are progressing smoothly.

Additionally, Suzhou Zhuozhao Dispensing Technology Co., Ltd. (873726.BJ) reported a net income attributable to parent shareholders of 26.7827 million yuan for the first half of the year.

The company stated in its semi-annual report that it has secured mass production orders valued in tens of millions of yuan in both visual inspection and Meta AI glasses, with smooth progress in production and delivery.

Zhang Xinyuan, research head of Beijing Co-Found Technology Development Co., Ltd., stated that the concentrated announcements by listed companies in the AI glass industry chain regarding products entering the mass production delivery phase signify not only the industry's formal transition from R&D and concept validation to large-scale commercial deployment, but also a substantial increase in industrial maturity.

More crucially, mass production deliveries have generated substantial order growth for core component manufacturers specializing in optical displays and sensors, etc., as well as suppliers of batteries and precision structural parts, thereby directly driving their performance improvements and creating a synergistic growth ecosystem, added Zhang.

-- AI glasses boast broad market space

IDC (International Data Corporation) forecasts that global smart glasses shipments will reach 14.518 million units in 2025, representing a year-on-year increase of 42.5 percent. Meanwhile, China's smart glass market is projected to achieve shipments of 2.907 million units in 2025, surging 121.1 percent year on year.

The sound growth of the AI glass industry in the first half of the year has been underpinned by multiple factors, including favorable policies, breakthroughs in core technologies, and growing market demand, stated Guo Tao, deputy director of China Electronic Commerce Expert Service Center.

In the second half of the year, with the traditional peak season for consumer electronics approaching, the AI glass industry is expected to transit from volume growth to improvement in both volume and quality, Guo noted.

At the policy level, on Aug. 26, the State Council issued the guideline on deepening the implementation of the "AI +" initiative, which explicitly proposes to cultivate intelligent product ecosystems, and vigorously develop new-generation smart devices, including intelligent connected vehicles, AI phones and computers, intelligent robotics, smart home systems, and smart wearable devices, etc., so as to create an integrated, all-scenario smart interaction environment.

Some regions have included AI glasses in their subsidy programs. For instance, Shanghai incorporated smart glasses and similar products into its digital product subsidy program early this year, with the policy remaining effective until Dec. 31, 2025.

Zhejiang issued several measures to support AI innovation and development, which propose incorporating products such as smart home robots, smart glasses, smart bionics, and smart health devices into the consumer goods trade-in program. Eligible products will receive subsidies covering 15 percent of the selling price, with a maximum of 2,000 yuan per item, valid until Dec. 31, 2027.

Hong Yong, associate researcher at the Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation, pointed out that the competition in the AI glass arena has just kicked off, with the market landscape yet to solidify, and there is huge growth potential in segments such as R&D of core components, final assembly, technical solutions, and content application development.

In the second half of the year, with more manufacturers launching new products and continuous technological iterations, the functionality and intelligence level of AI glasses will keep improving, which sets higher demands on the performance and power efficiency of core components, Hong added.

These demands will compel enterprises to accelerate product iterations, optimize product forms through lightweight design, and expand multifunctional capabilities to promote the application of AI glasses across diverse scenarios, including office work, healthcare, and entertainment, etc., and ultimately achieve a dual leap in both market penetration and user experience, Hong further stated.
