September 04, 2025

Abstract : Tanzania's University of Dar es Salaam, in collaboration with China's Zhejiang Normal University, on Tuesday inaugurated the China-Africa Regional Cooperation Center for Digital Education to advance the integration of information and communication technologies (ICT) in African classrooms.

DAR ES SALAAM, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- Tanzania's University of Dar es Salaam, in collaboration with China's Zhejiang Normal University, on Tuesday inaugurated the China-Africa Regional Cooperation Center for Digital Education to advance the integration of information and communication technologies (ICT) in African classrooms.

The launch ceremony, held at the university, brought together government officials, educators, and international partners, underscoring a shared commitment to enhance digital learning across Tanzania and the continent.

Nkanileka Loti Mgonda, dean of the university's School of Education, said the center will empower teachers to embrace innovation and strengthen cooperation in education.

"Digital education is not merely a tool. It is a bridge connecting learners to knowledge and nations to one another," Mgonda said.

The center will focus on promoting digital literacy among teachers, particularly in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, and supporting the integration of ICT into school curricula in line with Tanzania's new education policy.

Mtundi Aldo Nyamhanga, secondary education officer for the Kinondoni Municipal Council, described the initiative as a symbol of long-standing friendship between Tanzania and China, pledging continued support for the initiative.

Teachers participating in the launch were urged to use the center as a platform for sharing skills and fostering innovation in schools.

The China-Africa Regional Cooperation Center for Digital Education is expected to serve as a hub for training, research, and cross-border collaboration, contributing to inclusive and innovative learning across Africa.
