China's renewable energy expertise enters New Zealand

June 26, 2025

Abstract : China's renewable energy expertise is expanding its global footprint, with the official launch of PCG Global's operations in New Zealand marking a notable development in bilateral clean energy cooperation.

WELLINGTON, June 26 (Xinhua) -- China's renewable energy expertise is expanding its global footprint, with the official launch of PCG Global's operations in New Zealand marking a notable development in bilateral clean energy cooperation.

PCG Global, a platform specializing in the development and management of commercial and industrial photovoltaic (PV) assets, formally entered the New Zealand market through a joint venture with Dreamhome Group, a local property and construction company, last week.

The launch event in Auckland, New Zealand's largest city, was attended by representatives from New Zealand's political and business communities, as well as Chinese institutions and industry leaders.

Analysts note that the launch of PCG Global in New Zealand signals a new phase of integration for China's renewable energy expertise in global markets, particularly in driving clean energy transitions and sustainable development.

According to PCG Global, the company draws on the experience of its founding team from PCG Power, which has over 1 gigawatt of grid-connected capacity in China. The company has already established a project pipeline of 1.8 gigawatts across Oceania, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia, including a 180-megawatt pipeline and an 86-kilowatt demonstration project in New Zealand.

Plans are underway for a local operations and control center in New Zealand, which will incorporate real-time data monitoring and artificial intelligence-based dispatching systems to optimize performance and facilitate participation in the local electricity market, the company said.

Yang Jian, chairman of the Federation of New Zealand Chinese Business Associations, said that PV and energy storage technologies are emerging as new focal points for cooperation between the two countries in energy, trade, and technology.

Local officials have expressed confidence that PCG's presence will support New Zealand's goal of transitioning to 100 percent renewable electricity.
