Event promoting Chinese tea culture kicks off in Mongolia

May 22, 2025

Abstract : An event celebrating the International Tea Day and promoting China's tea culture opened here on Wednesday at the Chinese Cultural Center.

ULAN BATOR, May 22 (Xinhua) -- An event celebrating the International Tea Day and promoting China's tea culture opened here on Wednesday at the Chinese Cultural Center.

Titled "Tea and the World · Elegant Gathering: Fragrance of Purple Jade Tea Workshop -- Taste the Elegant Life of the East," the three-day event features tea culture demonstrations and purple clay pottery making skills, and an exhibition of a variety of teas, tea sets, and photos showcasing China's tea culture.

"For thousands of years, tea has carried the wisdom and philosophy of Eastern civilization. From the ancient Silk Road to the Tea Horse Road, tea has crossed the mountains and the seas and become a bond for dialogue between different civilizations," said Li Zhi, a counselor of the Chinese embassy in Mongolia and director of the Chinese Cultural Center in Ulan Bator, during the opening ceremony.

Ge Tao, director of Yixing Purple Clay Cultural Experience Hall and a famous purple clay craftsman, held a lecture on the fragrance of purple jade tea at the event on Wednesday, introducing the historical heritage and craft characteristics of purple clay culture.

The United Nations General Assembly designated May 21 as International Tea Day in December 2019.
