BEIJING, May 14 (Xinhua) -- The First Graduate Students' Forum on Chinese and Greek Civilizations was held at the Center for Chinese and Greek Civilization at Southwest University in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality on May 10, 2025.
The forum, organized by the Center for Chinese and Greek Civilization with support from the Embassy of Greece in China, brought together graduate students and scholars to present research and exchange ideas on improving the understanding between the two ancient civilizations.
In his keynote address to the event, Evgenios Kalpyris, the ambassador of Greece to China, highlighted the importance of the joint study of the two civilizations and the key role reserved to the Greek and the Chinese languages in it.
"The interaction between the Greek and the Chinese civilization is profound and needs to be studied on a new basis," said the ambassador, suggesting that scientific research should adopt a new, fresh and critical approach.
Zou Fudu, vice president of Southwest University, underscored the importance of the forum as a platform to promote mutual learning and cultural exchange.

During the event, Kalpyris also inaugurated a newly established "Garden of Hope" of the Center for Chinese and Greek Civilization, an initiative that symbolizes the historical bonds and the ongoing dialogue shared between the Greek and Chinese civilizations.
