XI'AN, April 14 (Xinhua) -- UFC strawweight contender Shi Ming engaged with fans during last weekend's UFC Fan Experience Tour in Xi'an, where the 30-year-old fighter-acupuncturist joined college athletes and locals in interactive drills like bar hanging and agility runs.

Beyond participating in activities in the ancient capital, Shi told Xinhua she's preparing for new challenges in her MMA career. "My goal is to claim the UFC strawweight title, just like my sister Weili did," declared Shi, referencing former champion Zhang Weili.

The rising star announced herself dramatically last November in Macao, where a crushing head kick knockout of compatriot Feng Xiaocan at the Road to UFC finals electrified the crowd. "My phone exploded with 500+ messages after that fight," Shi recalled. "It's rewarding to see growing recognition."

Fans have been equally impressed by her dual career. Dubbed "the world's most powerful acupuncturist" by Chinese netizens and even compared to martial arts legend Huang Feihong, Shi embraces the unique juxtaposition. "Few Chinese fighters maintain regular jobs while competing," she noted. "But overseas, this balance is common. MMA sharpens your mind, reflexes, and self-defense capacity - everyone should try it."

Bagher now serves as Shi Ming's coach.

Her transformation under Iranian coach Bagher since 2017 has been remarkable. From a 1-3 record initially, Shi has lost just twice in her last 18 fights. "When we met, she lacked physicality - just an ordinary girl," Bagher told Xinhua. "Now she's excelled in every aspect, even English." The coach, who also teaches economics at a Yunnan university, runs what he calls "more an English corner than MMA gym" with his international roster.

Despite training only six weekly hours - far less than peers - Shi's progress astonishes her coach. Recently, she trained with champion Zhang Weili, whom she admires: "Weili's championship mentality inspires me. After double sessions, she'd still train more with Bagher."

While awaiting her UFC debut date, Shi remains committed to both careers. "If results fall short, I'll increase training - but I won't quit medicine," she affirmed. The UFC opportunity has deepened her sense of responsibility: "I'll keep evolving to repay my supporters. When my title shot comes, I'll be ready."
