Nigeria reaffirms commitment to implementing outcomes of FOCAC Beijing summit

April 11, 2025

Abstract : The Nigerian government has reiterated its commitment to fast-tracking the implementation of the outcomes from the 2024 Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), emphasizing its intent to leverage the partnership for sustainable development.

ABUJA, April 10 (Xinhua) -- The Nigerian government has reiterated its commitment to fast-tracking the implementation of the outcomes from the 2024 Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), emphasizing its intent to leverage the partnership for sustainable development.

Janet Olisa, director of the Regions Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, made this statement at an inaugural meeting of a high-level inter-ministerial committee in the capital of Abuja on Wednesday.

The committee has been tasked with translating the various memorandums of understanding (MoUs) signed during FOCAC and the state visit of President Bola Tinubu to China into tangible developmental projects that will benefit the country, Olisa said.

Olisa, who also chairs the committee, highlighted that the implementation would focus on advancing Nigeria's priorities in critical sectors such as agriculture, digital economy, and infrastructure development.

Participants at the meeting emphasized the importance of fostering job creation, stimulating the economy, and improving living standards for Nigerians through strategic partnership agreements with China.

The high-level inter-ministerial committee also addressed several implementation challenges, including Nigeria's dependence on raw commodity exports to China. Concrete action items were outlined, including the submission of sector-specific roadmaps, a comprehensive review of existing agreements, the formation of dedicated implementation committees, and the resolution of discrepancies in various MoUs.
