International symposium on strengthening role of UN, promoting multilateralism held in Beijing

March 25, 2025

Abstract : China will continue to work with all parties to practice true multilateralism, safeguard the central role of the United Nations, and promote global governance that is based on extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefit, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Monday.

BEIJING, March 24 (Xinhua) -- China will continue to work with all parties to practice true multilateralism, safeguard the central role of the United Nations, and promote global governance that is based on extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefit, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Monday.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks in a written message for the international symposium themed "Strengthen the Role of the United Nations and Promote Multilateralism" hosted by the Chinese foreign ministry in Beijing.

The successful convening of the UN Summit of the Future last year reflected the common aspiration of the international community for supporting and promoting multilateralism, strengthening the role of the United Nations, and improving global governance, Wang said.

This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War and the founding of the United Nations, and the international community hopes to see all countries work in solidarity and coordination to uphold what is right, defend fairness and justice, safeguard world peace and stability, and promote global development and prosperity, Wang said.

As a founding member of the United Nations and a permanent member of the UN Security Council, China will continue to work with all sides to practice true multilateralism, safeguard the central role of the United Nations, and promote global governance that is based on extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefit, Wang said.

"Together, we will bring stability to a changing and turbulent world, inject positive energy in building a more just and equitable global governance system, and work toward the vision of a community with a shared future for mankind," Wang noted.

More than 100 people including representatives from nearly 50 countries, international organizations and regional organizations in China, UN officials, representatives from relevant departments and experts and scholars attended the symposium.
