Snow blowers independently developed by State Grid Changji branch help secure smooth operation of power grids in winter in Changji

December 16, 2024

Abstract : The new-generation snow blowers independently developed by the substation operation and maintenance center of State Grid Changji Power Supply Company are helping secure the smooth operation of power grids in winter in Changji, northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

BEIJING, Dec. 16 (Xinhua) -- The new-generation snow blowers independently developed by the substation operation and maintenance center of State Grid Changji Power Supply Company are helping secure the smooth operation of power grids in winter in Changji, northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

"On snowy days, in order to ensure the smooth operation of the substation equipment, we need to use insulated rods to remove snow from the equipment, which not only consumes time and energy, but sometimes also causes damage to the power supply equipment. The introduction of this snow blower has not only saved time and energy, but also reduced safety risks," said Li Mengfan, a staff member with the center.

It is learned that this snow blower draws inspiration from the working principle of blowers and is designed with reference to insulated rods. It consists of an air compressor, a hose, a switch control valve, an insulated telescopic tube, and a nozzle. The operator holds the insulated telescopic tube and can use the strong wind energy blown out by the air compressor to clear the snow on the power supply equipment.

On snowy days, power supply personnel need to clean up the snow on the power supply equipment in a timely manner to ensure the normal use of electricity by residents, or the melting of snow will affect the safe and stable operation of the power grids, noted Duan Liuyue, a staff member with the center.

To improve the efficiency and safety of snow removal work for substation equipment, the substation operation and maintenance center of State Grid Changji Power Supply Company started developing snow blowers in December 2016. The new-generation snow blowers developed in 2021 have been converted from traditional fuel powered ones to electric ones, and are more lightweight, environmentally friendly, and convenient.
