BEIJING, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- Nansha District in the southern city of Guangzhou has been actively seizing the development opportunities of commercial space industry in recent years, building industrial chains and clusters, and forming an integrated development pattern.
Chinese commercial spaceflight company CAS Space, also a unicorn enterprise based in Nansha, recently launched its Lijian-1 Y5 carrier rocket, sending 15 satellites into designated orbits. This launch marks the official entry of the Lijian-1 carrier rocket into the international commercial market.
Committed to realizing regular operation of commercial rocket launch services at low costs, CAS Space has made it possible to significantly improve the assembly efficiency and effectively shorten the production cycles, through mass production and lean management. This allows the company to provide global users with continuous, stable, reliable, efficient and accessible launch services, promoting the commercial space industry to grow into a new engine for economic development.
Officially moved to Nansha in 2022, CAS Space in January 2023 put into operation its industrial base in the district. The base, with an annual output capacity of 30 carrier rockets, is mainly used for production and assembly tests of rockets.
So far, the base has completed assembly tests for six Lijian-1 rockets, demonstrating mature production capabilities that are suitable for mass production and regular launch of rockets.
The provincial government of Guangdong, where Nansha is located, has recently unveiled an action plan about promoting high-quality development of commercial space industry. The plan proposes that the commercial space and related industries in the province should achieve a total scale of 300 billion yuan (about 41.46 billion U.S. dollars) by the year 2026, with the level of industrial development significantly improved.
