BEIJING, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- Nansha District in Guangzhou City, south China's Guangdong Province is prioritizing development of biomedicine, amid the broader efforts to build itself into an international medical service hub.
The district is supported to relax market access restrictions in the sectors of pharmaceuticals and medical devices, according to a document on supporting Nansha to ease market access restrictions and strengthening supervision system reform jointly released by the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Commerce (MOC), and the State Administration for Market Regulation at the end of 2023.
Foreign-invested enterprises are allowed to engage in the development and application of human stem cells, genetic diagnosis and treatment technologies in China (Guangdong) Pilot Free Trade Zone incorporating the Nansha Area of Guangzhou for related product registration, marketing, and production, says a notice on carrying out pilot programs to expand opening up in the medical field jointly issued by the MOC, the National Health Commission, and the National Medical Products Administration on September 7 of this year.
To seize opportunities in the biomedicine sector, Nansha has introduced a slew of policies, providing precise support for areas such as cell and gene technology, clinical trials, and scenario applications, and granting an incentive of 100 million yuan in maximum to sector-leading enterprises investing in new production and R&D bases in the district.
To date, more than 400 enterprises from fields like immunocellular therapy, stem cell and regenerative medicine, vaccine R&D, innovative drugs, precision medicine, high-end medical services, and advanced medical devices have settled in Nansha.
The district will keep fattening up its biomedicine sector, and strive to become an influential international medical service hub gathering over 1,000 biomedicine enterprises and achieving an industrial value of more than 50 billion yuan by 2026, according to Ouyang Liubing, secretary general of the management committee of Nansha economic and technological development zone.
