BEIJING, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- On October 15, an IEEE international standard project proposed by State Grid Tianjin Electric Power Research Institute was officially approved, marking a new breakthrough in China's efforts of promoting international standards setting.
The newly approved project centers on the design guidelines for power dispatching training and simulation systems based on metaverse. By simulating the process of grid control and operation in a virtual environment, metaverse technology can provide power dispatching staffs with a highly realistic and immersive operation experience, reducing the cost of trial and error through training process and improving training effect.
The newly proposed standard will offer a reference for designing metaverse training simulation systems of international power dispatching, which will be helpful to improve the scalability, maintainability and portability of such systems, according to Ma Xin, secretary general of IEEE Metaverse Standards Committee, noting that the project is of great significance for the promotion and application of metaverse technology in the field of power dispatching training simulation.
In addition to State Grid's Tianjin branch, other organizations such as China Electric Power Research Institute and Tsinghua University also participated in the project. It took only 6 months for the project team to complete the process from initiating the proposal of the IEEE international standard to get it approved.
Currently, the team is accelerating the development of a prototype system for the power dispatching metaverse, aiming to integrate multiple functions and scenarios and provide practical basis for the international standard.
Striving to complete the compilation and release of the standard within 1 to 2 years, State Grid Tianjin Electric Power Research Institute is committed to enhancing China's international influence in the field of metaverse standards, according to Ma Shiqian, a representative with the institute.
