BEIJING, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- An international conference on agrifood sustainable development just concluded in Beijing on Saturday, drawing around 800 scientists and entrepreneurs from over 70 countries.
Themed on "Climate Change and Agrifood Systems Transformation", the 2024 World Agrifood Innovation Conference (WAFI) consisted of one main forum, five thematic forums, an expo featuring cutting-edge agrifood science and technology, as well as multiple sub-forums and parallel forums.
It has been an international consensus that the transformation of agrifood systems is a crucial solution to the challenges imposed on food security by climate change. The three-day event helped deepen international cooperation in agrifood technology and talent cultivation, empower global agrifood systems transformation and contribute to global food security, said Zhong Denghua, an academician with the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
At the expo, an American technology company called Valmont presented its innovative solution for irrigation.
"China has been promoting sustainable development of agriculture, such as water-saving irrigation. We are looking forward to in-depth cooperation in the sector with China, to make irrigation sustainable and economically and environmentally friendly," said Kevin Meusch, general manager of the company.
