BEIJING, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- Weicheng Village of east China's Shandong Province has taken efforts in recent years in integrating tradition culture with economic development, creating jobs for women and the elderly in the village while promoting the inheritance of cultural heritage.
Led by well-skilled and experienced craftsmen, some 60 women and senior people pocketed more income for their family through making traditional handcrafts such as tiger shoes and tiger hats during slack season in farming.
Meticulously crafted, tiger shoes and tiger hats are typical representatives of traditional handcrafts in the village. Purely handmade, the complex needlework techniques involved in the process such as embroidery and pile embroidery are valuable crafts passed down through generations.
Such efforts help promote rural revitalization while protect the folk culture heritage, experts said. (Edited by Niu Huizhe with Xinhua Silk Road, niuhuizhe@xinhua.org)
