China Pavilion opens at Gwangju Biennale in S. Korea

September 09, 2024

Abstract : The China Pavilion for the 15th Gwangju Biennale opened Friday at the Geumbong Museum in Gwangju, South Korea, presenting unique Chinese aesthetics to the public.

GWANGJU, South Korea, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- The China Pavilion for the 15th Gwangju Biennale opened Friday at the Geumbong Museum in Gwangju, South Korea, presenting unique Chinese aesthetics to the public.

Themed "The White," which underscores the importance of overall composition of a painting like how to render background color, the pavilion is designed to introduce paintings by contemporary Chinese artists whose works feature unique Chinese aesthetics originating from Chinese traditional culture.

In his opening remarks, Chinese Consul General in Gwangju Gu Jingqi expressed the pleasure on the Chinese side to open the China Pavilion during the Gwangju Biennale this year, calling the event a manifestation of strong cultural resonance and deep friendship between China and South Korea.

"I took the pleasure to enjoy many artistic works by South Korean artists during the Biennale, and I noticed that the artistic works from our two countries draw some similarities. As an artist, I think the cultural convergence bears a special significance," said Bai Yuping, a researcher at China National Academy of Painting.

Yu Jingwen, a young artist from China, said artistic works are an effective means of communication between different cultures and countries.

"The audience can totally enjoy the cultural heritage through the drawings. It's an experience where language is not needed," she said.

The 15th Gwangju Biennale will run through Dec. 1, and the China Pavilion exhibition will last until Oct. 20.
