BEIJING, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- The Fengcheng-Meili 500kV power transmission and transformation project built by State Grid Jiangsu Electric Power Co., Ltd. was awarded the China power industry high-quality project of the year (2024) as announced by China Electric Power Construction Association (CEPCA) on September 2.
Deemed as the highest honor for engineering quality in China's power construction industry, projects are required to meet high standards in terms of design, management, technology, environment protection and energy saving as well as craftsmanship to qualify.
Starting from Fengcheng substation in Taizhou City to Meili substation in Wuxi City of east China's Jiangsu Province, the project is a key project in China's power industry development plan, running 178 kilometers in total, building two 385-meter transmission towers, with the section crossing the Yangtze River spanning 2,550 meters.
It is noted that the high-grade cross-river transmission channel could facilitate the transmission of the abundant clean wind and photovoltaic energy in the northern part of Jiangsu to Wuxi and radiate to other cities in southern Jiangsu such as Suzhou and Changzhou, thereby meet the manufacturing power use in southern Jiangsu while promote clean energy development in northern Jiangsu at the same time.
The project can increase the cross-river transmission capacity in Jiangsu by 30 percent and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 10 million tonnes annually, according to a source with the State Grid Jiangsu branch.
During construction, the team overcame a series of technical difficulties for ultra-high iron tower assembly and cross-river line installation, and adopted new technologies and materials, according to project manager Wang Zhangxuan. (Edited by Niu Huizhe with Xinhua Silk Road, niuhuizhe@xinhua.org)
