BEIJING, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- State Grid Jiangsu Electric Power Co., Ltd. completed a simulation test for energy storage control of distributed photovoltaics(PV) by using an independently developed coordinated storage control device on August 14.
Like elsewhere in China, a large number of medium and low voltage PV power generating units have connected to the power grid system in Wuxi, east China's Jiangsu Province. As of July this year, the cumulative capacity of distributed PV connected to the grid stood at 3.558 million kilowatts in Wuxi.
However, the random fluctuations out of the nature of distributed PV power generating have long been a challenge to stability of the grid system and reliable power supply.
To address this issue, State Grid Wuxi Power Supply Company has designed the coordinated storage control device, in which a model is introduced for estimating the service life of battery energy storage and a holistic strategy with minimum costs is deployed to deal with the precise storage control, so as to ensure the power gird stability after distributed PV units are connected to the grid on a large scale.
It is estimated that the coordinated control device for PV energy storage will improve the efficiency of energy storage, and the average annual operating cost of energy storage will be reduced by about 2,400 yuan per megawatt-hour. (Edited by Yang Linlin with Xinhua Silk Road, linlinyanglyn@163.com)
