BEIJING, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- State Grid Jiangsu Electric Power Co., Ltd. on August 21 finished the upgrading of the 500 kV power transmission line stretching from Renzhuang Village in Xuzhou City of east China's Jiangsu Province to Shanghai Municipality, an important power transmission line in the Yangtze River Delta region, providing residents in the region with more secure access to electricity this summer.
This line is not only the first 500 kV power transmission line in Jiangsu Province, but also a crucial channel transmitting power from the north to the south and from the west to the east. It passes through eight prefecture-level cities in Jiangsu, and provides electricity for more than 70 million people in Jiangsu and Shanghai. It has gone through multiple times of upgrading and renovation, and has been in safe operation consecutively for over 35 years so far, greatly contributing to the economic and social development of the Yangtze River Delta region.
This time's upgrading started from June this year, with the tasks including demolishing some old towers and building new ones, and replacing individual sections of the wires as a whole, making it the largest renovation over the years, according to Wu Lei, construction head of the upgrading project from Jiangsu Power Transmission and Transformation Co., Ltd. affiliated to State Grid Jiangsu Electric Power Co., Ltd.
The renovation involves a total of 25 iron towers and 10.601 kilometers of wires. As the renovation coincides with the critical time for summer harvest and planting, State Grid Jiangsu Electric Power Co., Ltd. has invested 345 construction personnel from 13 teams, achieving full-line construction mechanization by using intelligent construction equipment, and shortening the construction period to save time for sowing.
